“Trilogy” to be premiered at upcoming TC-GMC concert

This March, the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus will premiere my newest choral work, “Trilogy” — comprised of three settings of texts by Tony Kushner. The last of the three movements, “I Want More Life“, was premiered April 2009 by the TC-GMC in conjunction with the Guthrie Theatre’s Tony Kushner Festival launch.

The first movement of “Trilogy” is “It Is Very Simple” (text from Homebody/Kabul) and the second is “There Is A Little House In Heaven” (text from Hydriotaphia, or the Death of Dr. Browne). This commission was graciously underwritten by TC-GMC Board Chair Jeffrey Bores and his partner, Michael Hawkins.

Performances are March 26-27, 2010 at Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis. I will be attending both concerts and participating in post-concert question and answer sessions with TC-GMC Artistic Director Dr. Stan Hill.

Please visit the TC-GMC site for tickets to this concert, “LifeSongs: The Music of Living”.

Sibelius Rules

Well, after the learning curve couple of weeks using Sibelius, Brent and I are wondering why we waited so long. We are both really impressed with the Sibelius works, and the intuitive nature of the software. The lyric entry in itself is well worth the switch from Finale. We have switched, and have not looked back. So long Finale! (finally)

There Is A Little House In Heaven

Just finished movement #2, There Is A Little House In Heaven for TCGMC – the choral trilogy is complete and ready for the March performance in Minneapolis. Now … on to the Richard Rainville and Matt Quam extravaganza … from gay men’s chorus to a sex-expert columnist. Sort of the same thing, right?

It Is Very Simple

Just finished up Movement #1, It Is Very Simple, from the three-part choral piece, Trilogy, commissioned by the Minneapolis Gay Men’s Chorus. Now I’m on to Movement #2, There Is A Little House In Heaven – (Movement #3, I Want More Life has been finished, and if you wanna check it out, it’s right here on our blog.) It’s been fun setting texts by Tony Kushner – now, if only I’d get a call saying that he wants to write a full length piece with me! Well, I’d have to check my schedule … but I’m pretty sure I could fit him in.

Frankie is a Shaieb

Frankie is a Yellow Lab… who doesn’t like car rides or swimming. We think it’s because she has an ear thing which makes her get car sick, and hate getting water in her ears. She tries to keep her head way up when she swims which makes her butt sink. We take her swimming every saturday morning to help her elbow, which she had a problem with when she was a puppy. Since she’s not the best swimmer, we find it helps for her to have a life vest and a neck float. So embarrassing! (It kills me, so hilarious – We love her :)

Frankie is Lab??? Nope - she's a Shaieb! Right, Lynn?

Frankie is Lab??? Nope - she's a Shaieb!
Right, Lynn?

I have a theory that “Shaiebs sink” … and Frankie is definitely a Shaieb.

The Talented Ms. Ripley

Last thursday was Alice Ripley day in the studio. She graciously flew in and recorded Eagle Woman for our demo of The Protagonists. This filled in the last missing piece of the puzzle. Now Brent is in the studio with his magic mixing bag soon to be a finished demo.

A big thank you to everyone who recorded with us … you will hear the final mix soon!
