Evening Rush Hour – The Platform, 5pm

Platforms is a dance narrative musical theatre work commissioned by Melinda Atwood and the New York Musical Theatre Festival. Five choreographers, a director, a bookwriter, and a composer collaborated to create and perform this work in under two months.

The show begins on a crowded subway platform — “the one place in New York where you will find every social class” — at 5pm during rush hour, including a conspicuously out-of-place tourist couple from the Midwest (played by Deborah Yates and Matt Anctil).

This is the first of 15 tracks of original music that I wrote for the piece.

  • Hi Brent, My name is Jen Littlefield and I am an adjunct professor at Pace University. I wanted to talk to you about the Platforms show you wrote fro NYMF. The freshmen are doing a cabaret of songs around the theme of your first year in NYC and one of the ideas was to do something about the subway. I remembered this show and thought it would be perfect as a single dance number. Could you email me back and let me know if this would be possible and I can give you more information about the show.

    Thanks!
    Jen

PS – I also worked on one of the NYMF dance shows, Common Grounds, with Rhonda Miller the year before Platforms, it was a very interesting but fun experience. Hope to talk to you soon.
